Ever wonder about the girl behind the blog?
Well, I'm kind of terrible about writing about myself but here I'll give it a try.
My name is Harmony. Or, actually, it's not. But my real name is a secret and Harmony has been my penname since I was about 10, so it's the one I stick with online. Why Harmony? Well, when I was little and obsessed with Harry Potter, one of my favorite ships was Harry/Hermione and Harry+Hermione = Harmony. Kinda nerdy but the name grew on me and now I actually kind of like it.
I started Harmony Book Reviews back in 2008 because I was bored. I've been blogging since then, with two hiatuses in between. When it comes to reviewing, I try not to succumb to peer pressure and do what everyone else is doing. This is my blog and I hope that it reflects my personality.
I've been reading for as long as I remember. I remember come home from school in fifth grade after purchasing more books than anyone else at our book fair, plopping down on the couch, and reading an entire book straight through. Not much has changed since then - I'm still the book addict in the book of the class - but my tastes have evolved from Phantom Stallion and Animal Ark to books like Ballads of Suburbia and Shade.
Besides reading, I love to learn. I'm a bit of a nerd. I cyber school and because of that, I can take more classes than I would be able to anywhere else. I have a habit of overloading myself with an insane courseload and while math and science bore me, I love taking electives, like Sociology or Spanish. In my freshman year of school, I was even able to take an entire class on Laurie Halse Anderson, which was so cool. My other passions include writing, traveling, and languages. I don't write quite as much as I used to, mostly because I am more focused on living a full life so I have things to write about, but it will always be my number one passion. One day I hope to see my name next to some of my favorite authors in the book store. Traveling and languages are my new passions. I became addicted to travel after going on a trip to Guatemala last spring and my love of languages have spiraled out of that. Right now, my Spanish is quite terrible but I have plans to change this and learn other languages. I REALLY want to be able to speak Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Quiche (ancient Guatemalan Mayan language) fluently. I blog about my travels at skyaroundtheworld.wordpress.com.
